Tomi Lahren, a republican reporter known by shady nicknames from twitter’s Tomato Laryngitis or Terry Lungish, was recently fired from her job at a conservative news channel called The Blaze. After Lahren outed herself on The View saying that she was pro choice, the network took offense to that statement and decided to ban her. While some people on the left rejoice at this, considering the horrid racist and sexist remarks she’s made during her whole TV career, most white liberal women are surprised and even hurt by the fact that Lahren is being silenced.
Since Lahren’s suspension, writers journalists have apologized to Tomi for the remarks they had made about her before she got banned. But Lahren standing up for reproductive rights doesn’t change the fact that she called Black Lives Matter the next KKK and calls women ‘victims’ for believing they should have the same rights as men.
So why are white women defending Lahren despite her comments not just on people of color, but also on women?
To put it simply, most white women choose to hold up and value their race more than they value their gender. This was demonstrated in the 2016 election. Even though President Trump disrespected women -including the one he was running against- countless times, 53% of white women voted for Donald Trump.
While it’s easy for a white woman to take the route of protecting her race before her gender, it doesn’t benefit anyone in the end . As long as white women -liberal or conservative- continue to give up their rights for white validation, nothing will ever be accomplished.
So white liberals, you can’t claim to be a feminist if you support Lahren just because she’s pro choice because feminism is intersectional. Feminism is about having rights for all women, including women of color. And Lahren has no respect for women of color or people of color in general.
