The Act was administered to the Junior class this past Tuesday. This is one of the two major standardized tests that students submit with their college applications. Performance on the SAT and ACT can make or break a student when trying to get into college. Do you think that these standardized tests are a good measure of a student’s knowledge, or is it just another useless obstacle in front of a student applying to college?

I think taking the ACT was a great idea because not only did it prepare us for the next time we might need to take it but it was also free for the ones who cannot afford to pay for it outside of school. I do not think it was a useless obstacle, if it’s something the colleges look for then we should take it.

I think both of these tests are very stressful. You are not given enough time to fully answer the questions asked to the best of your ability. I think if you were given more time it would be better at accurately measuring a student’s knowledge.

I don’t really appreciate how everything is based off of testing. I am a student who has a hard time performing well on tests, because I overthink all of it and take too much time. I have a huge fear about taking both the ACT and the SAT next year, hopefully I can make it through!

I do not think standardized tests are a good way to measure a person’s knowledge. It is so easy to second guess yourself on them. There are also many factors that can add up to poor test results whether it’s not enough sleep the night before or maybe the testing room was too hot/cold. I do not think these tests should be as big of a deal to colleges as they are currently.
