Sophomore Skylar Brown has played on Brashier’s varsity volleyball team since her freshman year. For the past two seasons, Brown has worked hard on the court and has been constantly improving her volleyball skills; however, this wasn’t the start of her sports career. Brown has been involved in sports since she was very young.
“I started playing basketball in fourth grade and continued to play until sixth grade. Then, I started playing club and recreational volleyball,” says Brown.
Unsurprisingly, Brown isn’t the only athlete in her family.
“My dad went to Georgia Tech on a full track scholarship, and my brother plays football and runs track,” says Brown.
Being a member of a Brashier sports team means that you are a member of a family. Brown has enjoyed the family-like atmosphere of the Brashier volleyball team. She has also enjoyed growing as an athlete and accomplishing great things on the court.
“I enjoy the sense of belonging to a family and the bond you build with your team,” says Brown.
Brown loves the Brashier volleyball team because of the bond between the coach and the players. Coach Haleigh Horgan, Brashier’s new volleyball coach, has also helped Brown achieve her goals.
“It was really great to be on Varsity freshman year, but I definitely enjoyed sophomore year so much more. Coach Haleigh really made me enjoy the game so much more, and I am so glad to have her as a coach,” says Brown.
Brown wants to continue her athletic career and hopefully play volleyball during her college years as well.
“My plan is to start sending out film of me playing to different colleges. It would be really great to play during college as well,” says Brown.
No matter how good of an athlete you may be, there is always room for improvement. Brown is excited to continue to grow as a volleyball player with her teammates at Brashier.
“I want to continue to improve as a player and see our team improve. I am extremely excited for these next two years,” says Brown.
