Senior project is an impressive feat that requires skill and devotion to complete. Inspiring projects are amazing to watch unfold. It takes months of dedication, and by doing this the student shows his or her passion for the project. But it is intrinsically rewarding to love your project—especially when your project is your dog.

“I am extremely proud of [Katniss]! I spent lots and lots of hours training her, pretty much training at least an hour a day” said senior Katelyn Kargol.

Katniss is a Golden Retriever, Rottweiler, and Border Collie mix who was rescued from a local organization. For her project, Kargol wanted to train her to be a certified therapy dog.

“Her two tests she took and passed were the Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog Certification Test, which was the goal of my senior project!” said Kargol.

Her senior project does not stop there. In fact, Kargol started something extra in order to make others smile, and it has turned into something bigger.

“I also started an Instagram for her, and it was just for fun, but now she has over 1.7 thousand followers! Honestly, it surprised me. Like I started her Instagram, and never expected it to really take off. She’s actually in around three pet group chats! Everyone is so nice, and she has some friends as well! The account actually led to me being able to find the owner of her biological mom, and we arranged a meeting so that Katniss could see her mom again! It was really unexpected, but is literally so cool” said Kargol.

Katniss’s story is one of surprise, but also of devotion. Kargol made an account dedicated to her canine companion, but she has stuck with it. As said in a great dog’s Instagram post:

“Hard work pays off!!!” said Katniss Everdeen on Instagram (@katniss_the_superdog on Instagram).
