One common issue when selecting a Senior Project is how well you know the skill you are completing. This makes the decision difficult for some students, but there is an effective way to combat this difficulty and still make a project based on a passion: marketing. Having a lucrative talent opens up the door to creating a project and business based on your skills.

“It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do because at the end of last year I had no idea what I was going to do. This past summer, on a mission trip, I learned how to make string tie bracelets and realized it was something I had a lot of fun doing. From there, I did a lot of Pinteresting and realized jewelry making was something I could probably do for my project. I picked it because it was something that I knew I would enjoy doing throughout the whole year as I kept learning how to make new things and learning how to run a business,” said senior Reagan Palladino.

Palladino makes and sells her own jewellery. The handmade accessories are sold on her Instagram and will soon be sold on an Etsy page. The aspiring businesswoman has made leaps and bounds towards her project and continues to grow.

“I’m very happy with my products to far. I’ve had so much fun making everything and I like the way they’ve all turned out. I just wish that I had more products at this point in the year. I’ve sold quite a few of my pearl rings and a couple of the string tie necklaces,” said Palladino.

If there are senior projects that will be useful later in life, business management is among those projects. Palladino has learned to create, sell, manage, and grow her business all from the comfort of her classroom, something that may help her later in life.

“I think there’s a good chance [these skills will serve me later in life]. Learning to run the business has been more beneficial than learning to make jewelry. Even if I don’t end up with a career related to either I’ve been able to work on my people skills and organizational skills which is always good,” said Palladino.

Of course, Palladino did not start with the wisdom to grow her brand. She, like any senior project student, started from scratch. Her entrepreneurial spirit has aided her, but there is always a need for advice when starting out.

“I wish someone would have told me that to get things done I was going to have to set deadlines for myself for my actual project. I’m really bad with procrastinating and it’s really easy to put off working on my actual project. I think it would be really helpful to most projects to set personal deadlines,” said Palladino.
