Marilyn “Charles” Manson, is an infamous, American rock icon. Born Brian Warner, Manson is known for his intense concerts, controversial tendencies, and gothic appearance. Although recently, he seems to be known for his quickly amassing amount of abuse allegations.

“Marilyn Manson to me is a musician that I mainly knew for his wacky stage antics and appearances and was seen more as the oddball side of the music industry,” senior Kawelo Simmons told the Bengal Beat.

Notoriously known for what seemed to be anti-religious antics, Manson was a goth-icon. Conservatives saw him as a satanist and a threat to the young minds of America. He was the ultimate culture shock. He was even banned from Utah. Manson’s been accused of things from eating live animals on stage to causing a school shooting. Although, these aren’t the only accusations that Manson has stumbled into.

“He’s done some crazy things during his concerts such as burning a lot of things on stage and having arguments on stage with bandmates,” said senior Carter King.

Manson’s abuse allegations date back to the early 2000s. Sarah McNeilly, Evan Rachel Wood, Jenna Jameson, Esme Bianco, and others have accused Manson of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. After the numerous allegations against Manson, his record label, Loma Vista Recordings Label, dropped him completely. His manager, Tony Ciulla, also dropped Manson. He no longer will be able to record or work on future projects.

“It is far more likely that the victims are telling the truth since they came forward at different times without the knowledge of there being other victims. Also, Manson didn’t do himself any favors by dating a nineteen-year-old when he was thirty-eight, which is just inherently predatory,” exclaimed junior George Cerimele.

There are claims of being locked in rooms and forced to listen to him entertain other women, sleep and food deprivation, non-consensual BDSM, and much more. Many of the women share similar stories, making the allegations even more surreal than they already are.

“I saw a couple of articles about the allegations, and I also saw that a lot of people that knew him are either agreeing or sometimes disagreeing with the allegations,” added King.

Many influencers have stepped up to defend these women. Several of his alleged victims were already advocates and known for speaking out alongside the #MeToo movement. Dita Von Teese, who was with Manson for seven years, released a statement saying that while this had never occurred in her relationship, she encouraged everyone to speak out and get the help that they needed.

“The truth of the matter is, it is more sensible to believe the victims and accusers of Marilyn Manson. Not only has he had several allegations this year alone, but even some of his fellow rock collaborators, such as Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, have supported the accusers,” added Simmons.

The numerous accusations have led to the investigation of Manson by the L.A. police and quite possibly the FBI. Whether or not these allegations are true, it is very important to take them seriously and to remember that even our icons have their faults.
