What To Know About Skyrim

Jaimee Smith

Skyrim is an open world game that includes both main and side quests for players to complete. People can easily spend over 200 hours on this game.

Hey, you. You’re finally awake. You were trying to cross the border, right? Walked right into that Imperial ambush, same as us, and that thief over there.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released on November 11th of 2011. The role-playing game (abbreviated as RPG) was developed by Bethesda Game Studios. It can be played through Microsoft Windows, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Skyrim consists of the main storyline and numerous side stories. In each in-game town, different people give the player tasks to complete. The main story revolves around the player and them being the Dragonborn. The Dragonborn is the player’s character. They are mortal, but they can obtain Dragon souls.

The Dragonborn isn’t immortal, but they are somewhat like a demigod. They can use magic to their advantage and can use shouts. Shouts are specific to the Dragonborn, and they can be unlocked through quests and killing dragons. The first shout players usually learn is Unrelenting Force. Players obtain this by following along with the main storyline. When used, the Unrelenting Force pushes enemies back and makes them stumble. It can do light damage, but there are other shouts specific to doing damage.

At the beginning of the story, players can customize their character and give them a name. Players get to choose the race of their character. There are three different types of elves to choose from, a common person called a Nord, a catlike character called a Khajiit, and a few more races to choose from. After choosing a specific race, players can customize their person’s facial features, hair, and build.

Skyrim doesn’t have a long main storyline, but the side quests make up for it. To 100% the game, most people would have to spend at least 200 hours playing. There are different groups a player can join in the game to make money and become more powerful. Early in the game, players are instructed to join the Dawnguard, a group of vampire hunters. Going through the Dawnguard questline gives players a few chances to turn against the Dawnguard and become a vampire lord.

Becoming a vampire lord gives players more perks and another skill tree. Even though becoming a vampire lord comes with more spells that can be nice, there are some downsides. Being in the sun heavily affects players as a vampire, and they have to watch out for Dawnguard members because they will attack the players.

In the game, there are skill trees that track a player’s perks. There are 18 different kills and more than 250 perks for a character to unlock. As a character uses their skills and levels up, they can unlock different abilities in their skill trees. For example, when someone levels up their one-handed weapon skill, they can increase the damage done with their one-handed weapons.

Players can level up their skills. Leveling up their skills makes them level up overall. When players level up overall, they get the option to increase one of these three by 10 points: magikia, health, or stamina. He or she also gets to unlock one perk. To unlock a certain perk, players have to be at a certain level in their skill tree. If they are at said level or above and have unlocked the perks below the one they want to unlock, then they can go ahead with unlocking the perk they want.

Skyrim is a game full of things to do. There are numerous interesting quests for players to complete. The game is an attention keeper, and it’s easy to get addicted to playing it. Some players might even enjoy breaking the game and becoming a God-like character through the glitches people can exploit.
