Starting a new school year is always intimidating. There are new classes, new teachers, and potentially new friends. It’s a bittersweet moment, and seeing familiar faces is always comforting. Lauren Martin is a returning junior on newspaper staff. Lauren decided to return to because it looks good for college application and it enhances her writing skills. She enjoys that we act more as a family than a class.

“ I was homeschooled from third grade through eighth grade. My parents wanted me to ease into a smaller atmosphere and Brashier was the best choice,” says Martin.

Parents are always making choices that, in the long run, will benefit their child. Most of the time there is a disagreement on the decision that is made, but not with Lauren.

“Brashier offers college classes and the communication between teachers and students is great. Also, I really enjoy a smaller school because it gives you an opportunity to know everyone around you,”

Although Lauren likes Brashier, she thinks there is room for improvement.

“Dress code is most definitely something I want to change because wearing black all the time gets boring ,” says Martin.

Martin suggested not totally removing dress code because she likes the structure and simplicity of it, but  she brought up the idea of having colored polos instead of just solid black ones.

“Getting a taste of junior year and comparing it to sophomore year I can feel the pressure and the workload shift getting heavier,”  says Martin

Martin is still contemplating which career she wants to go into, but she Is leaning towards sports medicine. She wants to help athletes perform to their fullest abilities because she knows what it’s like to sit out. Lauren  is an athlete, she played softball for 7 years.

“I really love brashier. We all come together with academic and social activities, and it is heart warming,” says Martin.
